Emma Starkey's Curation of unit F27 at CrownGate Shopping Centre. 'Consume my Shopping Centr

Below you can see images on how Emma Starkey curated the shop unit at CrownGate Shopping Centre turning an unused unit into a clean cut gallery.

This is how the unit started off life, the space had a Green/Blue border, this did not fit into the exhibition, nor did it compliment the space we required. There were also advertising banners around the windows which blocked the view of potential visitors. The walls were marked and not completely white, also there where elements of the 'consumerist' within the space i.e the space seen above with the hanging utilities within the wall. Though suitable for hanging clothing or shelves we did not have purpose for them, they acted as an 'eye sore' a deterrent.

As you can see the first thing Starkey decided was that the border should be covered, to do this she acquired white Crown paint from the University of Worcester who in fact were kind enough to donate a left over tub from their Students final show, Lewis Tooby and Harriet Carter painted the majority of the border with the assistance of Robin Woodward. She wanted to ensure that the paint was of the highest quality so that it complemented the work and thus so brought more to ensure that Narrative had the up most professional feel. This extra paint was used to cover the marks and patches on the white walls to complete the high quality finish. She then decided to purchase ply wood from a local wood merchant (Premier Timber and Builders Merchants Ltd), who, was kind enough to give a small discount and free cuts, then used these made to measure boards to cover the outcrop where once laid the 'consumerist' hanging utility. Starkey Decided to leave some of these boards blank with no paint, and was a curatorial decision to break up what could have been a white abode, the ply wood also complimented some of Patrick Dunn's paintings, Starkey stated that 'the natural wood grain juxtapose the hard and accurate lines of Patrick's paintings which complimented them further.' Starkey Curated two artists work together Amber Whittaker 'Untitled' and Mark Hilsden 'Worcester Sauce' she felt that the two complemented each other with the object and glass cabinet almost like an extension of Hilsden's drawing bringing his work alive.
